Description
This wonderful old Japanese cloth was designed as a head-wrap (hachimaki) for practitioners of the Japanese martial art of kendo. The rough cotton weave is printed with bold calligraphy. Though the writing is in Japanese we are unable to make out the meaning due to the highly stylized brush strokes. This head piece dates from the mid to late Japanese Showa period (1926-1989) and is in very good condition though the fabric is a bit darkened with age with some areas of discoloration.
